Hot Tubs and Saunas During Pregnancy

What to Know About Soaking and Steaming

Hot Tubs

Hot tubs are not recommended for pregnant women, especially during the first trimester. The high temperatures can cause birth defects and increase the risk of miscarriage. If you do choose to use a hot tub, keep the water temperature below 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) and limit your time to 10 minutes or less. Avoid hot tubs if you have any pregnancy complications, such as high blood pressure or preeclampsia.

Saunas

Saunas are also not recommended for pregnant women. The high temperatures can cause dehydration and overheating, which can be dangerous for both the mother and the baby. If you do choose to use a sauna, keep the temperature below 120 degrees Fahrenheit (49 degrees Celsius) and limit your time to 10 minutes or less. Avoid saunas if you have any pregnancy complications.
