Dan Quayle: A Look Back at the 44th Vice President

Early Life and Career

James Danforth Quayle was born on February 4, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from DePauw University in 1969 and served in the Indiana National Guard from 1969 to 1975. Quayle entered politics in 1976 when he was elected to the United States House of Representatives.

Vice Presidency

In 1988, Quayle was chosen as George H.W. Bush's running mate in the presidential election. The Republican ticket won the election, and Quayle became the 44th vice president of the United States. As vice president, Quayle played a limited role in the administration's policy-making process.

Post-Vice Presidency

After leaving office in 1993, Quayle has remained active in politics and public service. He has served as a member of the board of directors for several corporations and has written several books. Quayle is a vocal supporter of the Republican Party and has frequently criticized the policies of the Democratic Party.
