Switzerland Stuns Germany, Füllkrug Levels Late
Hosts Draw 1-1 in Frankfurt
Germany came from behind to snatch a 1-1 draw with Switzerland in their opening match of Euro 2024 on Sunday in Frankfurt.
Switzerland took the lead in the 17th minute through Haris Seferovic, who headed in a corner from Granit Xhaka. Germany dominated possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances, with Thomas Müller and Kai Havertz both coming close to scoring.
The hosts finally got their equalizer in stoppage time, when Niclas Füllkrug headed home a Joshua Kimmich cross. It was a dramatic end to a match that had seemed destined to be a Switzerland victory.
The draw leaves both teams with a point in Group A. Germany will next face Portugal on Thursday, while Switzerland will play Spain.
